Kärt Ojavee from Estonia, our "Nordic-Baltic scholarship" recipient in 2020.
Kärt Ojavee (Ph.D.) is one of our October - November artists in residence and "Nordic-Baltic scholarship" recipient in 2020. (The third and final round for
applications is now open!)
Kärt is an artist, designer, and lecturer focused on future concepts of textiles and (inter)active interior fabrics. She experiments with new technologies and traditional textile fabricating techniques, testing the borders of both disciplines.
Besides working on her own practice, Kärt is currently a research fellow at the Estonian Academy of Arts’ Interior Architecture Department, where her focus is on experimental biomaterials and living materials. During her residency in Iceland, Kärt will focus on weaving ephemeral structures and exploring different types of materials:
"Constructing material like a temporary noise that leaves no traces... And sound ... the silence here is different, with an other kind of depth, perhaps."
