Ós Textile Residency (named for its location on the banks of river Blanda, overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean; "Ós" = Icelandic for estuary) seeks to promote an atmosphere of creativity, experimentation and reflection for artists and scholars working inside the textile field.
The residency, operated in collaboration with the Textile Center since 2013, accepts submissions from artists and scholars all year round (open call) and welcomes a variety of techniques and methods within textiles, including weaving, digital weaving, fashion design, surface design, embroidery, knitting and felting. Residents also have access to the TextileLab featuring digital equipment and are invited to join a lecture on Icelandic textiles and woolwork / spinning workshop during the time of their stay.
The award for "framúrskarandi verkefni á sviði menningar" (= outstanding project in the field of culture) was awarded by Katrín M. Guðjónsdóttir, the managing director of SSNV: Association of Municipalities in North West Iceland, and innovation advisor Ólöf Lovísa Jóhannsdóttir on April 3, 2023. The Textile Center's director, Elsa Arnardóttir, accepted the award on behalf of Ós Residency.
