TextileLab
In May 2021, the Textile Center opened the first TextileLab in Iceland, including a laser cutter, felt loom, vinyl printer, digital embroidery machine, 3-D printer, digital knitting machine and two Tc2 digital looms. The lab is located in walking distance (2 mins.) from the Textile Center and open for anyone interested in working with textiles: makers, students, artists, craftsmen, etc. Please note that the lab facilities are NOT included in the residency fee and access to individual machines needs to be booked separately! You can do this on site.
TC2 Digital Loom
Our Tc2 digital looms - one sample loom (weaving width 30 inch. equipped with 6 modules and 1320 warp threads, 18/cm or 45 epi) and one larger loom (weaving width 43 inch. equipped with 6 modules and 1320 warp threads, 12/cm or 30 epi) are now located in the TextileLab on Þverbraut 1. Artists in residence can book our larger loom (ONLY THE LARGER LOOM) for shorter sprints: 2 weeks at a time, max. 2 sprints. You can apply for a Tc2 residency using the application form here. See also images in our picture gallery.
With a TC2, artists can create designs which normally require a Jacquard loom. Artists who book the TC2 loom need to be experienced digital loom weavers and know how to roll on the warp beam, thread the heddles, thread the reed and understand how the Tc2 software works, as we do not offer any introductory or weaving classes at this point in time. Please note that we do not provide materials or warp!
