The event was held to help bring awareness to ocean pollution at three different beaches along the coast of Northwest Iceland on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Participants met at the beach of their choice and spent the day picking waste and building artwork (cairns) under the guidance of students from the Icelandic University of the Arts and artists from NES Skagaströnd and the Textile Center residency. Artwork was presented during the formal opening of the Arctic Coast Way tourist route on June 8th, 2019 - Ocean Day.
This project was a collaboration of the Icelandic Textile Center and BioPol in Skagaströnd, and funded by Uppbyggingarsjóður NV and the Icelandic Ministry of the Environment.
