The KnitFest was held in Blönduós from June 7 - 9 and it was great!
Prjónagleði – Icelandic Knit Fest is an annual event in Blönduós initiated by the Icelandic Textile Center. The festival was first held in 2016. Festival activities include many different workshops on a wide range of knitting topics, lectures, sightseeing trips to local knitting and textile sites of interest, market place, and a themed knitting competition. This year's festival was held in collaboration with Húnabyggð, with the Textile Center organizing courses and lectures.
From 2023 - 2027, the Textile Center is participating in an international project that received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2022 program: Tracks4Crafts. The main aim of the project is to research how crafts knowledge can be maintained and adapted for future generations. Promoting crafts education and developing workshops are an important part of Tracks4Crafts, which is why we developed the workshops of the KnitFest in 2024 within in the framework of the project. We also prepared a survey for guests where we asked about their handcraft backgrounds and current attitudes towards traditional crafts.
We look forward to seeing the results and thank everyone for coming and making Prjónagleði 2024 such a success!
